Dharma in the Yogasūtras

Sunday 26 July

Morning Session: 10.30am – 12.45pm

Afternoon Session: 2.00 – 5.00pm

Dharma has different meanings in different texts and contexts. What is its meaning in the Yogasūtras? Does dharma always mean ethical or virtuous conduct: ‘doing the right thing at the right time, for the right reasons’? The word dharma appears only five times in Patañjali’s Yogasūtras, but a closer look reveals that its meaning is subtly woven throughout.

In this workshop, we will discover how dharma pervades the Yogasūtras, that it is not just a concept but is practical, and that understanding it and reflecting upon it, can help us navigate contemporary everyday life. As well as exploring dharma in each of the four chapters of the Yogasūtras, we will chant a selection of sutras, and have time for questions and discussion.
